2024 Vernissage

So, the 2024 Graphic & Web Design Vernissage is coming up on April 10th 2024 and like most events where you’re made to put on display the work you’ve created over the past 3 years, I’m filled with both nervousness and excitement. The Vernissage is going to be held in the Agora of John Abbott College from 5 to 7 pm and absolutely everyone is invited to come and check out our stuff! What I love so much about this years graduates is how unique each and every one of us is in both our personalities and our designs. We all have our own interests and expertise that shine through our work, so expect every table to be full of character and personality!

I’m slowly but surely preparing for the Vernissage by not only putting together the work from the past few years that I’m most proud of, but also designing some new pieces. As much as I love a lot of the work I’ve created over the years, I can’t help but feel like there are so many design styles I’ve yet to explore that would perfectly represent me and my taste in design. Showcasing both schoolwork and personal projects will help me properly convey who I am as a designer, someone who can work on a task assigned to them, follow guidelines, and keep in consideration my client’s vision, but also a creative who loves to explore her own imagination and express herself through her designs!

It’s kind of crazy how three years of schooling can lead up to one 2-hour event, but I know that we all have bright futures ahead of us, and this event is only the tip of the iceberg. I’m so proud of everyone who’ll be showcasing their work at Vernissage and I’m even more excited to see what the future has in store for everyone!

What I want to do after graduation

What I want to do after graduation

Hey! With an aspiration in mind to hopefully study Interaction Design in either Toronto or Vancouver in the Fall 2024 semester, I have set some one-year goals to improve my graphic and web design skills. These goals are aimed at establishing a solid foundation in user interface (UI) design and preparing me for part-time work during the academic year, with an eye on full-time opportunities during the summer break!

Goal 1: Advancing UI Design Skills

My primary focus for the year ahead is the enhancement of my UI design skills. I intend to stay current with industry trends, explore new tools, and master the techniques necessary for effective UI design. This will include practicing my mockups, wireframes and practicing precision in my designs.

Goal 2: Strengthening Graphic Design Abilities

Graphic design remains integral to visual communication. I am committed to refining my graphic design skills, emphasizing the creation of visually appealing and meaningful visuals that serve a purpose in design projects!

Goal 3: Balancing Academics with Part-Time Work

While pursuing my studies, I am also planning to undertake part-time work to gain practical experience and further develop my skills. This will provide a well-rounded approach to learning, allowing me to apply my knowledge in real-world settings.

Goal 4: Pursuing Full-Time Summer Opportunities

In addition to my academic endeavors, I look forward to full-time summer opportunities where I can deepen my practical experience. These summer positions will be essential for honing my skills and gaining invaluable insights into the world of design.

In summary, my goals for the year ahead revolve around improving my design skills, both in UI and graphic design, while also gaining real-world experience. This journey is marked by dedication and the pursuit of excellence, with an eye on achieving my dream of becoming an Interaction Designer. Thank you for joining me on this path, and stay tuned for updates on my progress!

About my career Plan

About my career plan

Hey there! As I’m navigating my last year of CEGEP (the final stretch before my university journey), it’s time to unveil my exciting 5-10 year career plan. Brace yourself, because this adventure is all about combining creativity with entrepreneurship.

Short-Term Goals (5 Years):

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Interaction Design: The first item on my checklist is earning my bachelor’s degree in Interaction Design. This is my ticket to unlocking the world of UI/UX design and creating captivating digital experiences.
2. Lifelong Learning: Learning never stops, right? Over the next five years, I’m committed to soaking up knowledge like a sponge. That means staying updated with the coolest design trends, expanding my skill set, and maybe even snagging a few certifications.

3. Crafting My Jewelry Brand: While working toward my degree, I’ll also be crafting my own jewelry brand on the side. It’ll be like a creative outlet, where I can experiment with unique, handcrafted pieces and build my brand’s online presence. Of course this means that I’d love to work with and help other fashion designers with any graphic design needs!

Long-Term Goals (10 Years):

1. Leadership and Mentoring: Fast forward to a decade from now, I see myself climbing the UI/UX design ladder, taking on leadership roles, and possibly mentoring up-and-coming designers. Sharing the wisdom, you know?*

2. Expanding My Jewelry Venture: My jewelry brand? Well, I’m dreaming big. Picture it flourishing and becoming known for its quirky, handcrafted gems. I might even open up some brick-and-mortar stores and collaborate with talented artisans from all corners of the globe.

3. Balance is Key: Amid all the ambition, I’ll never lose sight of the importance of work-life balance. This journey isn’t just about building a career; it’s about creating a life that’s as fulfilling as it is exciting.

This plan isn’t just a checklist; it’s a roadmap to a life filled with creativity, challenges, and joy. I’m ready to embrace the ups and downs, adapt to new opportunities, and turn my dreams into reality. So, who’s ready to hop on this rollercoaster with me? The adventure is just beginning!
